I will admit that on my first listen of "Fear Fun" I didn't think I'd play to it again. This is the type of album that grows on you after each and every listen. Certain songs reminded me of John Lennon and the work he produced. The lyrical content from Sally Hatchet specifically made me think of the Beatles lyrically, including this line : "Sally Hatchet lives in a hole in the ground / The longer it keeps raining the more she has to struggle to / maintain a wonderful time / Oh yeah" The end of the song is reminiscent of The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" when the orchestra comes in at the end to create tension. "Fear Fun" is an album that is really rewarding to listen to multiple times and you'll notice something new each time
Thanks to SubPop for uploading the whole album to YouTube!!!
This is some really interesting music. Thanks for the recommendation! I really like the album cover. Remind me of The Beatles
ReplyDeleteSo you just put me up on something new I would have probably never listened to, I'm actually feeling it, think I'm becoming more open to some of the other genres.
ReplyDeleteReally relaxing stuff. I would listen to this while studying or working on homework. Loving the stuff you are sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love the Fleet Foxes, saw them at pitchfork a few years back. So far this sounds like the music I play when I drink coffee, do my homework, and just hang out around the apartment. It gives me a fantastic energy and is right down my alley for this new folky music coming out.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that you mentioned The Beatles because the second I saw the album cover all I could think of is. "this looks like a combination of Sargent Pepper, Revolver, and Yellow Submarine."
